Fred Hinton

Fred Hinton, Ph.D.

Research Scientist — CASS, University of California San Diego

Dr. Hinton earned a Ph.D. in 1967 from the California Institute of Technology (CalTech) in Pasadena, California. He was a professor at the University of Texas at Austin for 12 years before moving to San Diego, where he worked as Senior Technical Advisor for General Atomics.

In 2006, he joined the Fusion and Astrophysical Plasma Physics Group as a Research Scientist. His ongoing research relates to anomalous transport.

Dr. Hinton's honors include:

  • Elected Fellow of the American Physical Society (1981)
  • Alfred P. Sloan Foundation Fellow (1974)
  • National Science Foundation Fellowship (1963)
